"jason" could be right about the smpt server if you are using an email client. (By the way, it is ALWAYS called smtp, not just sometimes!)
If you are using web-based email, the problem is likely with Yahoo. Yahoo has created a whole host of glitches and problems and headaches with all their work on upgrading Y!Mail in recent weeks. Hopefully, they will resolve the problems and glitches soon so we can have reliable service once again.

Sounds like you haven't setup your outgoing mail sever address. Check with you provider on what it should be. It can be called 'smtp' server sometimes.
